SPEN invests £5m in Renfrewshire

28/06/2019

SP Energy Networks is investing £5million to modernise and reinforce the resilience of the high voltage network in Renfrewshire.

The six-month project, which will start in June, will allow for vital upgrades to the electricity network, futureproofing the connection of 40,500 homes and businesses in the Erskine, Bishopton, Inchinnan, Linwood and Johnstone areas.

Work on Moss Road began earlier this month and will continue in locations between Linwood and Bishopton – including Houston Road, Greenock Road and Old Greenock Road. As the work continues, there will be an increased presence of SP Energy Networks and PN Daly vehicles and staff in the area.

SP Energy Networks may also set up temporary traffic control measures, however, the team will keep affected residents updated on this and will ensure that local access is maintained.

Angus Campbell, District General Manager, at SP Energy Networks said: "At SP Energy Networks, we’re committed to futureproofing the network so that customers see the full benefit of modern technology with fewer disruptions and power cuts in the area. As our demand for electricity increases in the coming years as we move to a low carbon economy, it’s important that infrastructure is built to cope with this demand. Our work in Renfrewshire will ensure that customers are given the service that they need for years to come."

“As work is carried out, we will be working hard to ensure there are minimal disruptions to customers during the completion of projects and always aim to keep local residents informed as work progresses."

SP Energy Networks owns and operates overhead and underground powerlines in Central and Southern Scotland as well as Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and North Shropshire. For more information about SP Energy Networks and its services, visit: spenergynetworks.co.uk
