As owners of the transmission network in central and southern Scotland, SP Transmission have recently completed the major refurbishment of V Route overhead line which is a key transmission line.
The 132 kV line involved runs between Galashields, Hawick and Harker and has a length of around 68 km. In excess of two hundred and eighty towers have been inspected and receive required maintenance in addition to the conductors being renewed.
V route is a geographically strategic double circuit overhead line that provides the main high voltage into Hawick and surrounding area also connecting directly into National Grids Harker Substation.
At an investment cost of around £30 million, the programme and nature of work was at times challenging as the line crossed a number of waterways and roads such as the A7. Congratulations to the SPEN team for their hard work involved in delivering this significant project.
The line is situated in a rural setting and has involved significant work by SPEN Wayleave Officers helped ensure access arrangements were agreed with in excess of 90 different land owners along the route.
SPENs refurbishment and modernisation projects ensure the transmission network is playing its part in the countries move to clean energy and a more sustainable environment.
