The developers of Tralorg Wind Farm had requested SP Energy Networks provide a connection to transport the renewable energy generated into the transmission network.
SP Energy Networks recently energised the route which has been successfully completed by the project team.
The wind farm is located to the east of Girvan in South Ayrshire and is connected into Markhill Substation to the north of Barrhill. The route distance is approximately 14 km and the 33 kV connection consists of 9.4 km of single pole overhead line with underground cable completing the route.
The construction project commenced in November 2019 and the entire route involved work taking place on private land. A helicopter was used at stages for the transport of material and reducing vehicle movements significantly. Ground matts and low pressure ground vehicles were also utilised to access site to minimise impact on the surrounding environment.
SP Energy Networks are proud to have been involved in this project as we play an important role in the countries move to clean energy and a zero carbon society.
