TWO PROPOSED NEW WOOD POLE OVERHEAD LINES BETWEEN HAWICK SUBSTATION AND THE EXISTING STEEL TOWER LINE (V ROUTE)
PUBLIC CONSULTATION – 20th May to 19th June
SP Transmission (SPT), as holder of the transmission license for SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is proposing two new overhead lines connecting Hawick substation to the grid network. This public consultation seeks your comments on the proposal.
The proposed development would realign one existing wood pole overhead line (Pole CY6 to tower V271A) as well as a new wood pole overhead line between Hawick substation and tower V271A.
Both overhead lines would run at 132kv, would be supported on ‘Trident’ wood poles and would have a potential height range of 10m to 22m above ground, including insulators. Span lengths of the overhead line between poles would be in the range of 70m to 100m.
The overhead line between pole CY6 and V route would be 0.4km long and the overhead line between Hawick substation to V route would be 1.3km long. Double wood pole supports known as Trident ‘H’ poles are to be used on both overhead lines.
An extension is also required to the existing Hawick substation. This will be subject to a separate planning application to the local authority.
Following establishment of the proposed routes, SPT intends to submit an application to the Scottish Ministers for consent under section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 and deemed planning permission under section 57 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997. Submission of the Section 37 application is anticipated in December 2024.
A hard copy of the consultation material will be available for viewing at Hawick Library from 20th May to 19th June.
