We have a licence obligation to provide renewable energy developments with a connection to the electricity network and in line with this is proposing to construct an extension to the existing Crystal Rig substation 10km south of Dunbar in East Lothian.
A consultation leaflet has been produced in order to draw comment from statutory consultees, stakeholders and the general public. A copy of the leaflet can be downloaded here. This project falls within the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006, and under the Town and Country Planning (Hierarchy of Developments) (Scotland) Regulations 2009 is classed as Major Development. However, the proposed substation extension does not fall within the scope of the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) (Scotland) Regulations 2011 because the substation will not be involved in the production of electricity, but its transmission. Regardless of this, on the basis of its mindfulness towards local people and the environment, we are undertaking an environmental appraisal of the proposed works and is preparing an environmental report in support of its application for consent to East Lothian and Scottish Borders councils.
All comments should be received by Friday 19th July 2013.
