Kype Muir Windfarm Connection Project

The developers of Kype Muir Wind Farm requested an underground cable connection to transport the electricity generated at the wind farm to our transmission network.

The route is approximately 16 km long and heads north as is leaves the connection point at Coalburn Substation to the south of Lesmahagow in South Lanarkshire - following the B7078 (Carlisle Road) before turning left onto Teiglum Road and then right onto Strathaven Road continuing on Lesmahagow Road out to Boghead where it turns left and follows the B7086 until it leaves the road heading south to the windfarm location.

The Project Team faced a number of challenges as the work progressed to its successful completion in October 2018 when the underground cable connection was energised.

SP Energy Networks are proud to have again played an important part as we all move to cleaner energy and a more sustainable environment.
