Kilmarnock Town Substation is situated in the heart of Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire where it plays a key part in the transmission network delivering energy to the local district network and the businesses and households supplied across the area.
The major projects team have recently started a construction project at the substation which is part of the transmission networks fault level mitigation programme and will involve the replacement of two existing transformers.
With an investment cost of £8.4 million, site set up and activity commenced in March 2023 and will take place in stages. All the work will take place within the existing substation footprint and is scheduled to be completed in the last quarter of 2024.
Ensuring our substations and overhead lines are operating effectively and efficiently is priority at SP Energy Networks with our modernisation projects playing a central role in supporting the nations move to net zero.
