Kilgallioch Windfarm Connection

SP Energy Networks are currently carrying out works to connect Kilgallioch Windfarm to the Transmission Network.

The windfarm which is currently under construction is situated to the south of Barrhill within South Ayrshire Council and will be connecting into Markhill Substation which is located to the north of Barrhill. The connection consists of underground cabling for the entire route which is approximately 14 km in length.

A section of the route includes cable installation under the roadway, verge or footpath at Gowlands Terrace, Barrhill.  Discussion with South Ayrshire Council Roads Department is ongoing to agree how to carry out this work and traffic management measures will be necessary to allow the activity to be completed safely. Access to Barrhill Train Station will be taken into account and every effort made to minimise any impact on the community which includes access and delivery routes for all vehicles involved in the Project. When complete, underground cabling leaves no lasting visual impact.

In addition to this work, SP Distribution will also be replacing much of the local distribution network which serves properties situated between New Luce and Barrhill. The ageing infrastructure will be replaced with a new 3 phase overhead line within much the same timescales as the Connection Project and will provide the community with a more robust and resilient supply.

Work started on the connection in December 2015 and should be completed in first quarter of 2017. There should be no supply outages as a result of the work associated with the wind farm connection.
