Engaging Your Community & Identifying Priorities

Engagement with the local community is an important part of any community energy project and should be initiated early in the process to build trust and address any negative perceptions. It is important to remember that community engagement is an ongoing process and you should ensure that people are regularly updated about project progress.

There are many different reasons as to why it is important to engage with your community including:

  • To define key priorities in line with local needs
  • To build and maintain good relationships, manage expectations and address concerns
  • To tap into local knowledge and skills
  • To enable collaboration with community organisations or agencies operating in your area and carrying out complementary work.
