Elvanfoot Substation is situated in the lower end of South Lanarkshire near to the Leadhills. This strategic asset is a key node in central and southern Scotlands transmission network.
Major Projects have recently commenced a project at the site which will extend the existing substation footprint. The extended area will see the installation of two new transformers along with associated circuit breakers and switchgear allowing the future connection of clean energy generation.
The overall investment cost of the various elements of the project are around £11 million, being part of the RIIOT2 price control period.
The construction activity which is scheduled to be completed in the last quarter of 2024, will be delivered by a range of specialist contractors during the various phases of the programme.
There will be no disruption to local electricity supplies.
