Currie Substation plays a key part in the SP Transmission Network - located to the southwest of Edinburgh the substation connects a number of major transmission lines.
SP Energy Networks (SPEN) have a responsibility to deliver a reliable, consistent and safe electricity supply throughout central and southern Scotland and as part of our ongoing investment and modernisation programmes we have recently commenced work on a construction project which will extend Currie substation ensuring the facility meets future demands placed upon it.
The extension will take place on SPENs own land at the south end of the east side of the existing substation footprint thereafter allowing the erection of a GIS Building (Gas Insulated Switchgear) after which reconfiguration and replacement of some of the ageing equipment will occur. The investment cost of the project is in the region of £18 million. The programme of work was delayed in 2020 due to the impact of Covid across all construction activity – completion is now scheduled in the third quarter of 2021.
