Coalburn Substation is situated in South Lanarkshire to the south of Lesmahagow, playing a strategic part in central and southern Scotlands transmission infrastructure as it supports the nations move to net zero.
The substation already hosts a number of renewable energy generation connections with several more to follow in coming years. This ensures the site feeds clean energy into the network for wider use across communities and business.

To ensure these future connections can take place, SP Energy Networks Major Projects have recently successfully completed a sizeable extension to the existing substation footprint allowing the installation of an additional 400 kV supergrid transformer along with associated equipment.
SP Energy Networks are proud of the central role we are playing in the transition to net zero and energy security for the nation. This activity was part of the £3 billion investment programme across the network in central and southern Scotland being delivered as part of the current price control period.
