Coalburn Substation is situated in South Lanarkshire to the south of Lesmahagow, playing a strategic part in central and southern Scotlands transmission infrastructure as it supports the nations move to clean energy.
The substation has already facilitated a number of renewable energy connections with several more to follow in coming years supporting the nations move to net zero as we ensure our transmission network operates effectively and efficiently as it transports energy around the country.
The major project at Coalburn commenced in May 2022 involving a sizeable extension to the existing substation footprint which will allow the installation of an additional 400 kV supergrid transformer.
The construction activity is scheduled to be completed in quarter 4 of 2024. There will be no disruption to local electricity supplies.
