SP Energy Networks are proposing to construct a new 400kV substation at Coalburn in South Lanarkshire, immediately to the north of the existing Coalburn substation. The location of the proposed substation is approximately 1 km to the south of Lesmahagow and 1.5 km northeast of Coalburn village. The development is required to allow proposed renewable energy development in the wider area to connect to the transmission network.
Planning Application

As the overall application boundary is likely to be greater than 2 hectares, the application is considered Major Development under Town and Country Planning (Hierarchy of Developments) (Scotland) Regulations 2009.
As a Major Development, SPEN are required to undertake pre-application consultation on the proposals.
