Variety Scotland & SP Energy Networks brings Christmas to children in Glasgow

29/12/2016

Variety Scotland hosted its 34th Christmas party in Glasgow thanks to support from SP Energy Networks. Over 300 children enjoyed a fun-filled day of entertainment with magicians, clowns and of course, Santa himself.

The party, hosted by children’s charity Variety Scotland, brought together children from across Glasgow who suffer from a range of disabilities such as additional learning needs and mobility problems. The party gave children the opportunity to have a memorable, festive day thanks to funding from the electricity distributor.

Variety Scotland works all year round to help build the self-esteem of children who are disadvantaged through various initiatives including parties organised by the Variety Great Days Out team. The charity relies on funding and support to ensure as many children as possible across Scotland have the opportunity to live a more fulfilling life.

Guy Jefferson, Director at SP Energy Networks, said: “We’re delighted to partner with such a fantastic organisation. Variety Scotland’s commitment to giving all children an equal opportunity to reach their potential, regardless of their circumstances, is why SP Energy Networks funded such a worthy cause. The Christmas party was a fantastic event, it was great to see the children so engaged and meeting Santa was definitely a highlight for everyone.”

Elliott McKenzie, Chairman of Variety Scotland, said: “We know first-hand the positive effect social events like this can have on children with disabilities. Having the support of SP Energy Networks allowed us to throw a truly memorable Christmas party for some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged children. Our aim is to ensure every child in Scotland has the opportunity to live a fulfilling life.”

The 34th Variety Scotland Christmas party was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on Monday 12, December. Children from across Glasgow attended the event which included entertainment from magicians, clowns, balloon shaper and a disco. Each child received a Christmas present from Santa and goody bag.
