Frank Mitchell, CEO SP Energy Networks, and his team meet with The Planet First to recognise our commitment to business carbon footprint reduction.
The Planet Mark programme is an annual certification which we have now held for two years, reducing business carbon footprint (BCF), including losses by 16.4% in that time.
The programme verifies our business carbon footprint (BCF) and has recognised the delivery of our strong commitment to year-on-year reductions in the carbon emissions from our assets and activities. We also benefit as our data is better, which helps us to understand how to reduce our biggest impacts and to communicate our progress as we head towards our target of 80% reduction in business carbon footprint by 2030.
Our efforts have been recognised before...
In October 2018, Avril Johnston, a sustainability data analyst within our business, was nominated for a coveted Planet Mark Award for taking our carbon data system quality ‘from average to excellent since joining the Planet Mark.’
Our aim is to reduce our carbon footprint annually and continue to achieve Planet Mark certification each year and meet our 80% reduction target.
Following the meeting, the Planet First team held a workshop to explore the next steps towards further BCF reductions, including actions to reduce SF6 leakage, substation energy consumption, business transport and improvements in the energy efficiency of our buildings.
The Planet Mark is an internationally-recognised and trusted sustainability certification programme recognising commitment to continuous improvement in sustainability. It is awarded to businesses, properties, new developments and projects that are committed to reducing their carbon emissions. Its unique 3-step programme develops knowledge and communication skills so as to embed sustainability within organisations.
Steve Malkin, founder of The Planet Mark said: "The Planet Mark simplifies sustainability and delivers quantifiable social, environmental and financial benefit for every business.
