SP Energy Networks Nominated for Two Utility Week Awards 2014

16/10/2014

We are delighted to announce that we have been short listed for two major industry awards in the categories of Supply Chain of Excellence and Team of the Year at most prestigious in the industry; The Utility Week Achievement Awards (UWAA) 2014.

Our nominations come after a successful submission to Utility Week for contributing to the success of the Commonwealth Games (Team of the Year Award) and for our Graduate Programme (Supply Chain Excellence Award).

Utility Week recognises companies and individuals that ‘forge the way ahead’ in the Utilities Sector; companies producing, distributing and retailing energy or water.

We are proud to have been nominated for both categories as these awards are widely recognised among the industry for their rigorous judging process.

The nominations are well deserved and a great way of acknowledging the hard work and commitment shown by employees throughout the business. The ‘Team of the Year’ nomination is most noted for our involvement in Scotland’s biggest cultural and sporting event. We prepared for the 2014 Commonwealth Games for almost a decade, with around £150million of investment in the electricity in Glasgow brought forward. There were 22 new connections to the network to the games venues’ in total and the ultimate reward was accomplished when no games venue or live site lost supply of electricity during the event. One-hundred of our employees provided 24 hour response to 13 venues during the 10-day games period and contributed to the overall success.

The ‘Supply Chain of Excellence’ nomination is in recognition of our College Recruitment Partnerships. We are the first utility to work with the supply chain and the colleges will provide training for 150 new recruits over the next 2 years. We are proud to state that we have retrained ex-service personnel and 49 previously unemployed people who now have new skills, and are in full time employment.

The winning entry will be announced on the night of Monday 8th December 2014 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London where 1,300 people will attend. Organisers promise the night will be a great opportunity to celebrate achievement, meet friends, entertain customers and enjoy an evening full of entertainment.
