Scottish Green Energy Awards 2016

02/12/2016

SP Energy Networks has scooped two prestigious awards at an awards ceremony that recognises businesses contributing to renewable energy in Scotland.

The Scottish Green Energy Awards were held in front of more than 1,200 guests in Edinburgh last night where Keith Brown MSP, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work addressed the audience ahead of the winners announcements.

From a record number of high calibre entries, we were presented (for the second year running)  with ‘Best Innovation Award’ for our Dynamic Cable Rating System; an innovative project deploying a new technique to monitor the thermal behaviour of underground cable circuits, allowing more renewable energy export at a lower cost while reducing our environmental impact.

In our second win, the ‘Judges Award’ recognised Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks and SP Energy Networks for our work on the Beauly to Denny electricity transmission line.

Other winners on the night included Glasgow Science Centre who picked up ‘Champion of Renewables Award’ for their Powering the Future exhibition. A number of SP Energy Networks graduates and apprentices were involved in this interactive exhibition which shows visitors what goes on behind the power switch.

Frank Mitchell, CEO SP Energy Networks said “There is a real determination in Scotland to develop new, innovative approaches to our low carbon economy and we should be very proud to be included in such a strong field of winners. Thank you to everyone involved in these significant achievements.”
