18/11/2016

We are proud to annouce that we are now an official sponsor of RGC 1404 (RUGBY GOGLEDD CYMRU) - Rugby North Wales, to help power North Welsh rugby for the future. The three-year sponsorship deal is revealed days ahead of RGC 1404 going head to head in the Principality Premiership with Cardiff RFC at Parc Eirias on Saturday (19 November) at 12:00pm.

We will support RGC 1404 to help continue the club’s progression as a top flight development team on the pitch and inspire grassroots support for rugby union in North Wales.

The sponsorship will include our logo appearing on the 1st team’s jerseys, a new interactive exhibit in the Fan Zone of Parc Eirias to entertain families ahead of home fixtures, and player appearances at local schools throughout the next two years.

Mark Jones, Head Coach at RGC 1404, said: “RGC has made an impressive and positive start in our first season in the Principality Premiership, the team are currently placed third in the league and the signs are very encouraging for the rest of the 2016/17 season. Gaining support from SP Energy Networks only reinforces the incredible journey RGC and the North Wales region is currently on, and I’m confident that with their support we will be able to develop and grow the North Wales region over the next couple of years.”

We are committed to supporting the local community in North and Mid Wales through an extensive programme of local sponsorships and community engagement programmes. This includes sponsorship of the Anglesey Agricultural Show, support services for vulnerable customers in North Wales, engagement with local stakeholders, and a school power-safety initiative called PowerWise.

Over the next eight years, we will invest £800 million to maintain and improve the power supply network in North and Mid Wales. Our business manages approximately 9,605km of underground cables and 1,245km of overhead power lines that connect over 375,000 homes and local businesses. We also employ more than 380 staff and 700 contractors in North and Mid Wales, and anticipate an intake of 300 new staff members over the next five years.

Stephen Stewart, Director at SP Energy Networks, said: “We’re proud to announce our sponsorship of RGC 1404 and play our part in the development of rugby union in North Wales. Over the coming months, we have plans to roll out wider sports partnerships in the region.  We’re also committed to providing community support, network investment and employment opportunities in North Wales.”

Sion Jones, WRU General Manager for the North Wales Development Region and RGC, said: “Sponsorship helps RGC 1404 deliver the highest standards of rugby development for our players, supporters and communities. Over the next three years, we’ll be working with SP Energy Networks to provide exciting opportunities for people across North Wales through sponsored activities for fans, school pupils and wider grassroots initiatives.

“The WRU has a strategic purpose which is ‘more people, more often with more enjoyment and more success’. Our aim will be to increase regular engagement and participation, across all age groups, utilising all formats and competitions, creating more positive rugby experiences for anyone involved with rugby.

“This is an important strategic partnership for RGC and we are delighted to be working in partnership with a brand like SP Energy Networks that is committed to the North Wales region just as we are.”
